Autism supports in Ireland
Start with needs and age, then layer autism-specific information on top of the general Irish disability routes.

Children: start with needs, not paperwork
For a child who needs therapy or disability support, the HSE children’s disability referral route is a key starting point. An Assessment of Need is a separate statutory process and is not required simply to access children’s disability services.
Assessment
Use the current HSE autism assessment page for age-appropriate information. Adult assessment information is changing in 2026. Check the current HSE page for available options; an announcement does not necessarily mean a service is available.
School
Use NCSE/SENO routes for school supports, placement information, special classes, transport and transitions. The education route depends on needs and criteria, not solely on an autism label.
Community and adult support
AsIAm provides autism-specific information and programmes. Its current adult support information includes routes that do not require an official diagnosis.
